A word in your ear

October 30th, 2009

Here at Waterfold and Worcester Lodge we recently placed  the English Heritage signs previously on our fence, down on the main road. This way more people could  see them and could be directed up to Witley Court.

But this was just the start of a wave of invective against us. “You have no right to put private signs up”, “we’re taking this to a higher authority”, you better watch out, you don’t know what you’ve started!!!” etc. At no point would  anyone allow us to simply tell them we had only changed an existing sign from plot A to plot B. Village politics. Who needs it?

The Parish Council  was initially behind the dark forces of the invectifiers, but we had a word in their ear and they understood we were simply local people living a local life, with no axe to grind – unlike the other parishioners. Hopefully it’s all now resolved, but really!! Do we need all this?

What makes you happy?

So what do you really want out of life? A fast car, to be a TV celebrity or to be a humble labourer on a piece of land you can call your own? It’s about time we all knew. What about you?

It’s the boys wot dunnit

Getting up at 6 in the morning is all very well, but now when water is gushing through the ceiling of your house and your small boys are having pretend showers and splashing about on your carpet.

Slow Down, Save Lives

July 16th, 2009

Welcome to the Slow Down, Save Lives campaign, which we will soon be running on the greatwitleyonline site. This is a result of recent accidents outside Worcester Lodge and Waterfold, two properties that are located on the junction of the Worcester Rd and the final entrance to Witley Court.

Over the next few weeks and months I will be illustrating why this part of Worcester Road needs to have speed limits applied and the lane running to Witley Court needs to have a tonnage limitation. A week ago, a motorcyclist was rushed to hospital after colliding with a car at the junction. Yesterday a little girl was airlifted to hospital after being cut out of a car.

It’s not good enough that the authorities simply hold up their hands and say “there’s nothing we can do”. I do not intend to stand by and watch my wife and children risk their lives going in and out of that entrance in the face of official apathy and local antipathy.  Enough is enough.
